Have you been to Willstan’s Grille lately?  The casual dining restaurant has been in LaVergne for a few years now and the first time I walked in, I immediately recognized that we had a lovely restaurant that was a notch above other local dining establishments.  Not that we don’t love El Rodeo, Noodle House, and the fast food places – we do!  However, the gorgeous decor and the warm fireplace greeting you as you walk in, along with a full-service bar, is quite nice. I watched the movie Lincoln earlier this year and although I knew the outcome, I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the vote on the 13th amendment that abolished slavery. Hollywood’s interpretation and reenactment of that fateful time in our nation’s history felt incredibly real. The Civil War had a devastating impact in what was then the little backwoods, podunk town of LaVergne. Coffee with Cream and a Side of Exploitation

Yesterday local residents suffered a terrible loss when a member of their family tragically died in a fire.  According to news reports, the fire department was dispatched around 6:30 in the morning.  The mobile home was heavily damaged, one person was injured, and another died, perhaps in one of the worst ways possible. Please allow us to express our sympathies to the family. There were numerous fire and police personnel on the scene, as well as volunteers to provide rehab services (give gatorade, water, coffee, food, heat, etc. to the responders who were on the scene for nearly eight hours). It is February 5, 2013, do you know where your New Year’s resolutions are?  If they are like mine, they found their way quickly in the trash by the 5th of January.   Although mine weren’t written down formally, I had the usual resolutions to lose weight, save money, get a little more organized, blah blah blah.  Yeah right, who was I fooling?
