To the graduates

Graduation time is here.  Whether you or your child (friend/relative/whatever) is graduating from high school or college, I want to say congratulations.  This is an awesome accomplishment.  Your hard work has brought you to this point and you deserve the praise and accolades. But, guess what…it doesn’t stop here.  Your next stop after this is a big one, no matter what path you choose.  You may be leaving high school on your way to college in the fall, or in to the workforce.  You may have obtained a degree at the university and you are considering another or what you…

Let the Children Play

I don’t know about you but I welcome this beautiful weather with open arms.  It was a fabulous weekend to get out and play!!!  I hope you were able to get out and enjoy it as much as possible. With the nicer weather we will see more children out playing.  As we have the smartest readers on the planet, I know you all realize we need to be extra careful when driving through our kid filled neighborhoods.  Our kids could be riding their bikes, playing ball or running around playing tag (do kids still do that?) One important thing to…

Stormy Weather

With severe weather in the forecast and it being that time of year again, I thought it would be great to put together some information for everyone.  I had a chance to talk with Richard Long. He has served as the Weather Coordinator for Box 100 here in La Vergne for the last 4 years. Box 100 is a non-profit all volunteer organization who assists the La Vergne Fire Department and other city emergency responders during emergencies. Theresa: Rich you are the Weather Coordinator for Box 100. What does that mean exactly? Rich: The job in Box 100 I volunteered…

Educators and Easter Eggs

We are proud to congratulate two La Vergne teachers for being named Rutherford County Teachers of the Year.  Shannon Holland at La Vergne Primary School and Sharron Hofer at La Vergne Middle School were chosen by the school district as the grade level winners.  (Kelly Wester of Smyrna High School is the winner for the high school category.)  These wonderful teachers will be honored with the Teachers of the Year from each county school at a reception later this month.  The three grade level honorees will go on to represent our school system in the regional and state recognition program. …

Love Is In the Air

Howdy folks!  Have you picked your Valentine yet?  I took my kids to pick out boxes of cards for their classmates last night.  Watching them decide on the perfect “theme” reminds me AGONIZING over them as a little girl.  Then, once I had the box, making sure I picked the perfect one for each person in my class.  It bugged me like crazy that I had to give one to that one boy who always pulled my hair, tripped me on the playground and generally made life difficult.  But, it is fair and right…blah blah blah! Don’t forget about the…

No More Resolutions

No More Resolutions

It is February 5, 2013, do you know where your New Year’s resolutions are?  If they are like mine, they found their way quickly in the trash by the 5th of January.   Although mine weren’t written down formally, I had the usual resolutions to lose weight, save money, get a little more organized, blah blah blah.  Yeah right, who was I fooling? Various statistics I found on the interwebs say 20-50% of resolution makers are resolution breakers by the end of January.  One theory may be that resolutions sound a bit negative: lose weight, quit smoking, and don’t spend money,…

Greetings and Happenings

Hi everyone, I am really excited to meet all of you.  I love to write and I am honored to have this opportunity with this captive audience.  As Lola said, if you have any ideas on topics to cover, rants or especially raves please let me know! Don’t forgot about the upcoming FIRST EVER La Vergne Parks and Recreation Father/Daughter dance.  It is Saturday, February 9th from 2 pm-4 pm at the Multipurpose Building.  Admission is $5 and should be a lovely time for everyone.  Although we can’t make it this year, I am looking forward to this becoming an…
