Old Timer’s Festival time!!

Holy cow!  It is time again for our fabulously fun Old Timer’s Festival!  I am so excited, are you?   This is going to be the BEST YEAR EVER for the festival.  The weather is looking fabulous and there are lots of exciting things to see, do, eat, ride, buy and enjoy!! The festival kicks off on Friday night when the carnival opens.  I am really excited for the Songwriters Unplugged/Open Mic night at the entertainment stage.  This year (weather permitting) there will be tethered hot air balloon rides that start Friday night, too.  WOW!! Saturday brings us the La Vergne…

What’s happening, La Vergne?

Hellooooooo, La Vergne!  How ya doing?  Are you getting used to getting up earlier with the kiddos or leaving a bit earlier because of the increased school traffic?  My daughter’s bus arrives two minutes earlier this year and it has really thrown our house for a loop.  You wouldn’t think two minutes would be a big deal but it is! Speaking of back to school, I am so excited to attend our Back to School bash on September 1, 2013 at Veterans Memorial Park.  If you remember, due to weather, we had to postpone our fireworks show in July.  Our…

A busy week coming up

Hi gang!  How’s your summer been?  I haven’t written much because mine has been a bit insane.  But, hopefully with school starting next week we can all get back into the groove. I wanted to tell you about a few goings on here in La Vergne.  First up, this Saturday, the 3rd, Box 100 is having a fundraiser yard sale from 8a-3p.  Grace Church at the corner of Stones River and Old Nashville has generously allowed them to use the parking lot for the sale.  Big THANK YOU to them!  Box 100 members have been gathering stuff from far and…

Restaurant Week 2013: Bob’s Barbecue

My coworker and I had Bob’s Barbecue for lunch on Friday.   Bob’s is located on Waldron Road, across from the golden arches place.  They are open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday with a drive through for added convenience.  (They also have a location in Smyrna in case you are interested.) I will begin by saying that the service in this place is so friendly.  Every time I have been there, I have been greeted with genuine smiles.  In addition to that, the restaurant is always neat and clean and the service is fast.  Both of these are reasons…

Restaurant Week 2013: C.R. Noodle House

Below is a restaurant review sent in by a dear La Vergne friend, Jen C. Welcome, happy readers, to another installment in our Restaurant Week 2013 series. As you can see from previous articles this week it’s pretty tasty here in La Vergne. Let me give you some more proof. Today’s restaurant is C.R. Noodle House. Their sign indicates their specialties are in Thai and Laotian cuisine. Their menu indicates that they are all about the noodles. I believe they deliver on both counts as the menu features around 150 dishes. The majority of these feature some type of noodles.…

Restaurant Week 2013: China City

Hiya peeps, welcome to the second installment of Restaurant Week 2013.  I dined today at the new restaurant in the Kroger shopping center, China City.  I believe it has only been open for a couple of weeks, a fact that usually makes me leery about visiting (I like to give them time to work ALL the problems out before I visit.)  But, for you, dear favorite readers, I made the sacrifice!  Are you feeling the love here? China City is not a sit down, buffet style restaurant like others.  It is a small place, I think I saw 5 tables,…

To the graduates

Graduation time is here.  Whether you or your child (friend/relative/whatever) is graduating from high school or college, I want to say congratulations.  This is an awesome accomplishment.  Your hard work has brought you to this point and you deserve the praise and accolades. But, guess what…it doesn’t stop here.  Your next stop after this is a big one, no matter what path you choose.  You may be leaving high school on your way to college in the fall, or in to the workforce.  You may have obtained a degree at the university and you are considering another or what you…

Let the Children Play

I don’t know about you but I welcome this beautiful weather with open arms.  It was a fabulous weekend to get out and play!!!  I hope you were able to get out and enjoy it as much as possible. With the nicer weather we will see more children out playing.  As we have the smartest readers on the planet, I know you all realize we need to be extra careful when driving through our kid filled neighborhoods.  Our kids could be riding their bikes, playing ball or running around playing tag (do kids still do that?) One important thing to…

Stormy Weather

With severe weather in the forecast and it being that time of year again, I thought it would be great to put together some information for everyone.  I had a chance to talk with Richard Long. He has served as the Weather Coordinator for Box 100 here in La Vergne for the last 4 years. Box 100 is a non-profit all volunteer organization who assists the La Vergne Fire Department and other city emergency responders during emergencies. Theresa: Rich you are the Weather Coordinator for Box 100. What does that mean exactly? Rich: The job in Box 100 I volunteered…
