A long time ago, my old hometown newspaper would publish the names of delinquent taxpayers. I was always embarrassed that my uncle made the list every single year.  I don’t know why he never paid his taxes on time, but he didn’t.  He did always end up squaring up on the money owed, though.  Like my old hometown, it looks like the city is going down the same road by publishing the names of delinquent taxpayers.  Instead of printing them in the newspaper, though, they’ll be published online. No Parking On The Dance Floor (But It’s Okay In The Streets)

I found something very, very interesting today. I’m sure you have all seen these signs here in La Vergne. You know the ones, I’m talking about, the ones that say you can’t park on the street: So I thought, 15-604, huh? I went and looked it up. Here’s exactly what City Ordinance 15-604 says: 15-604. Edward Ewing House Born Sep 9 1896 Died Sep 10 1896

Edward Ewing House lived one day according to this headstone at what I am guessing is the “Mason Cemetery” at Lake Forest Park behind the police substation. Other graves show that a people who lived in LaVergne from years gone by were families, friends, and very spiritual people. Here is Mary Latimer’s final resting place. She was born on December 2, 1804 and died July 20, 1865. Another Mary Latimer was born October 2, 1842 and died August 2, 1863. 21 years old. Hurricane Creek Cleanup Yesterday + Open Thread

Yesterday was the Hurricane Creek Cleanup and I have got to say it was AWESOME. There were about 50 people there and we got a whole lot done. The weather could not be more perfect. I would love to thank our elected officials who were out there picking up trash right there alongside us, Mayor Mosley and Alderman Broeker. Also, a big thanks to Vice Mayor Farmer who was there on site as a medical tech.   One of this city’s best assets is our proximity to the lake, so I feel it is our obligation to help keep it…

Why Do We Park On A Driveway And Drive On A Parkway?

So the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted tonight to defer a vote on an ordinance that would ban parking in your yard. Understandably, people were upset. I live in a part of Lake Forest where there are LOTS of people who are parking in their yards, because there simply isn’t enough parking in the (tiny) driveways and garages for all their 90 cars. I must admit, I am slightly torn on the issue myself. I fully support banning parking in yards. It just looks, lol, unsightly and hurts people’s property values. The Play’s The Thing, And So Is The New City Website

Forgive my conciseness this evening, there’s lots to tell you and not much time. First, come out to support the kids in the Roy Waldron Drama Team Thursday and Friday nights. It is being held at La Vergne Middle School both nights. The doors will open at 6:40 PM and the play, which is “The Adventures of Flat Stanley”, starts at 7 PM. Tickets are $5 at the door. Clean Up Clean Up Everybody Everywhere

Anyone who has children under the age of 21 might recognize the Barney lyrics: Clean up clean up everybody everywhere. Clean up clean up everybody do your share.
