What You Ought To Know About La Vergne Water Billing/Water Department

Ivy sez: Pay yo' bill! It's good for your heart!

The ladies who work over in the Water Billing Department are some of the nicest city employees we have. And I have seen them deal with some VERY irate people in an incredibly professional and kind manner. I am so proud to say I know them. I had the chance to sit down with the Water Billing Supervisor, Mary Martin, earlier this week and I told her I was going to put a post up on TiLV to hopefully help Google guide people to the right number to call if you want to pay your water bill. See, it appears…

In true La Vergne fashion, the city was officially incorporated on February 29th, 1972 which means it’s been around for 40 years this year, but it’s only its 10th “Official” birthday. Learn To Drive, La Vergne!

February 27, 2012
By

…eh, I’m mostly just kidding. I’ve driven in California, Chicago, and the place where nobody knows how to drive, Florida. And I hear tales that Washington DC out-crappy drivers all of these places a hundredfold. But I figure I might as well hold up my driving pet peeve for all to examine this evening…. And it is this…. I can only drive as fast as the person in front of me. So if there is someone in front of me driving under the speed limit, why is the person behind me tailgating me?  I cannot tell you how much that…

La Vergne TN Wants Costco!

February 26, 2012
By

I just got back from Costco. I gave up my Sam’s Club membership years ago in favor of a Costco membership, because Costco has things I need at excellent prices. I’ll give you an example. The Kirkland brand (which is Costco’s house brand) of dog and cat food is a very high quality dog and cat food. I had a cat who was allergic to corn, wheat and soy, which is found in almost all brands of cat food that you can buy at the regular store. (Kroger, Target, Wal Mart, etc.) So I was going to PetSmart and spending…

On Good Corporate Citizenship

On Good Corporate Citizenship

Where heroes are often easy to recognize – firemen, police, 911 dispatchers, EMTs, rescue personnel, volunteers – sometimes corporations are not much appreciated. You deal with big oil companies raising gas prices based solely on speculation, banks taking back homes without working with owners to modify loans when they hit hard times, and corporate lobbyists that seem to own Congress. However, sometimes a corporation strips away the cynicism and really shines as an example of doing things right.  It pleases me greatly to acknowledge  Firehouse Subs and the Firehouse Subs Safety Foundation as a good corporate citizen.  In addition to…

Op Ed: On Police Cars, Dispatch System, and Hiring Cops

February 19, 2012
By

Full disclosure before this opinion-editorial piece begins. Yes, I do have police friends. Yes, I have talked with city workers so have gathered information from many reliable sources. No, I do not have all the answers, but I do have some answers. Yes, this is my opinion – one of which you may agree with or not. It is my personal opinion, but it is based on listening to the first-hand experiences and insights of those who do know the conditions of the current fleet, the current dispatch system, and the challenges faced by a relatively small number of officers.…

From the City:   (La Vergne, February 18, 2012) It only took 37-seconds for an armed man to rob Jimmy’s Tobacco Outlet at 7:46 p.m. on Saturday night, February 18th. Wearing a blue hoodie, blue bandana, and light leather work gloves, a black man between 5’7” and 5’11” stormed the store located at 400 Old Nashville Highway and got away with approximately $300. The robber fled on foot. Detective Konrad Kaul emphasized the left-handed robber was holding a black pistol grip pump action shotgun. “If this is a left-handed pistol grip shotgun, it would be unique. If you know of…

Time to Get Your Hands Dirty

There is a wonderful effort underway in LaVergne.  It’s something that not a lot of people know about yet, but it’s sure to make the 32,000 happy residents happier. We are officially forming a “LaVergne Garden Club” to work on beautification projects around the city. This past fall, we cleaned up around City Hall. There were trees that were trimmed, weeds pulled, and mulch put down. If that sounds like a good work out, if you want to see nice things in the city, or if you like getting your hands dirty, there is an opportunity TODAY to help out.…
