La Vergne Loves! The Voting Post!

January 26, 2012
By

How it works: You can vote once daily, in any category or all the categories, but not more than once in a 24 hour period. I took the top three nominees in every category except a few I cut out due to lack of interest. Voting closes at midnight on February 13th, the winners will be revealed on February 14th, because this is La Vergne LOVES! and we LOVE all of you guys. (even the people who don’t love us, truly) All nominees will receive a certificate, the winners will receive a slightly better certificate! Thanks for voting!  ...

Arrests Up and Crime Down (aka WTG LPD)

Now that the city tax bills have rolled out, money is coming in. This means we will soon begin seeing some of the major repairs outlined in last year’s five-year planning. Of course, the plan is not necessarily carved in stone as sometimes the unexpected happens and newer needs emerge, thereby changing priorities. Case in point is when the water level of the storage tank on Sanders Road dropped this summer. We have heard at Board of Mayor and Aldermen meetings that as a result, building a new pump station is being moved to 2012 from 2015′ish. Basically, “it”...

“Outrageous” Water Rates Not So Outrageous

January 15, 2012

I’ve had about enough of the myth that the water rates in La Vergne are outrageous and the highest in Rutherford County. I read somewhere that a Realtor is recommending people NOT move to La Vergne because the water rates are so high. If that is really the truth that a Realtor is telling that, I believe the City should sue them because they are not telling the truth about our water rates being the highest in the county. Here is the residential rate schedule for the water in La Vergne: Gallons per month Water Rate Inside City First...

Box 100 Seeks Volunteers

The volunteer organization Box 100 is seeking volunteer members to help provide support services to first responders.  Box 100 members assist the city’s emergency departments with such duties such as crowd and traffic control, providing rehab to personnel on lengthy and/or exhausting emergency calls, securing areas at emergency scenes as required, and any other tasks requested by incident commanders. Box 100 volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are continually training in storm readiness, CPR, and emergency response preparedness in order to aid our community in the event of an emergency. Most recently,...

Myopic, Obtuse Players Are Top Stories of 2011

January 1, 2012

A new year is a chance to start again, while remembering the highlights (and lows) of the past year. And what a year 2011 was for our dear LaVergne, no?  Even though – technically – we got a new mayor in November of 2010, this past year was the first full year of the new administration. This administration has had a hard row to hoe, that no one will argue.  As the new mayor, Senna Mosley was finally able to effect the changes she had been asking for since 2004.  As alderman she was the lone voice for the...
