Hello LaVergne! I am Lola D., new writer for the site. I have lived in this city for more than 12 years and am avidly involved, through good times and bad, through the ups and downs. No matter what, I LOVE MY CITY and because this site has taken the lead in keeping residents informed about news and events, I begged to be a part of it. Ivy has kindly allowed me to do this, so big thanks to her!
It is a big big weekend coming up! Highlights!
Friday, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., City Library
This food is a real fright to behold, but delicious to taste! Plus you can check out books!
“My sources tell me that we like our readers to be educated and informed about actual facts rather than with made up mamby-pamby stuff! READING is a good way to achieve this!”
Prescription Drug Take Back
Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., City Hall
If you have unused or expired prescription medications (pills, liquid, creams), cover your name with marker and drop them off for safe throwaway. A lot of times, we just want to flush old medicines down the toilet, but they can contaminate the water supply when you do that and we don’t want to do that, do we?
“My sources tell me that Channel 5 may be there.”
Trail of Treats
Saturday, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Veterans Memorial Park
Come by and visit This is LaVergne during the annual sugar buffet. And hey kids! There will be other games and activities, too. It’s going to be a great day and we’ll not be hags or ghoulish to our visitors!
“My sources tell me there are going to be really cool giveaways by the Special Ops Trailer, including toys and other cool stuff… They will be accepting donations for the Ricky Quinn Benefit Fund at the location and it would be super sweet if you could chip in a little while you’re there.”
F.O.P. vs. Titans Alumni Football Game
Saturday, 7:00 p.m., LaVergne High School Stadium
This is the big fundraiser for the police department’s philanthropic fund. In addition to other charities, money raised goes toward the Christmas program in which more than 150 LaVergne children received presents and 75 LaVergne families received food last year. Tickets are $10. If you picked up a free ticket from someone, dig deep in your heart and do the right thing… make a donation to the F.O.P. while there. Also concessions are provided by Box 100 and they are donating money to our city’s last volunteer firefighter, Ricky Quinn. If you are truly sincere about wanting to help your neighbors, this is an EASY and FUN way to do it! Who will be there? The proof is in the pudding.
“My sources tell me that the police got their butts kicked last year and they are ready for some payback! Go LPD!”
NO HURRICANE CREEK CLEAN-UP
No where, No time, No way
What was a traditional clean-up day over by Hurricane Creek Boat Ramp area off Stones River Road is moot. The city’s new Parks & Recreation Director wisely determined that with everything else going on in the city, it over-extends staff.
“My sources tell me that a clean-up will be rescheduled for the spring.”
Thank you for letting me be a part of This is LaVergne! I look forward to being here. 😀
Hey Ivy! Can I make this an open thread?
