Congratulations to Choraliers!

This has been one exciting weekend for the city of La Vergne!  Egg Hunt (and awesome video) first. Beautiful weather for today. And now….

… drumroll …

the LaVergne High School Choraliers have performed so beautifully, so amazingly, with such precision and melody that not only did they WIN BIG, but they’ve been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City!  We are welcoming them home tonight with a rally at the high school (after they arrive with police escort).  Here’s the news release from the city,

LHS Choraliers Win Big in St. Louis – Honor Escort Planned

The City of La Vergne will proudly welcome the LHS Choraliers home tonight after they competed in the renowned Heritage Festival of St. Louis. Under the direction of Gilbert Aldridge, La Vergne High School received three honors:

• Choraliers – 2nd Place – Gold A Rating 92/100
• Rockafellas – 1st Place – Gold A Rating 92/100
• Tony Brown – Individual Achievement

As a result of these outstanding performances, the LHS Choraliers also received an invitation to participate in the 2012 American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The city will honor the students with a police escort through town when they return this evening. Mayor Senna Mosley is urging citizens to show their support, “Come out to the high school and congratulate our students tonight! This is such a great opportunity for La Vergne. It clearly shows that we have a great educational program in our community.”

“This is a proud moment for La Vergne,” said Vice Mayor Chris Farmer. “We have known for many years that our choir is outstanding – you recognize their excellence every time they perform the National Anthem. Congratulations to this talented group of musicians!”

The red Wise Tours bus will arrive in La Vergne on Waldron Road around 7:45 p.m. and will be routed down Waldron Road, through town on Murfreesboro Road, then up Sam Ridley Parkway and to the high school. The residents of La Vergne are encouraged to arrive at the high school this evening (Sunday, April 17th) around 7:45 with congratulatory signs to welcome the singers home. The bus is expected to pull in about 8:00 p.m.

If you can’t be there, watch for the honor escort and honk your congratulations!

Please try to join the celebration!

Yay for the Choraliers! They’ve worked their tails off this year and the honor is well-deserved.

Interesting observation, though (and I don’t really expect that anybody has an answer): About half the Choraliers graduate this year, so I guess it’s NEXT year’s choir that gets to perform at Carnegie Hall?

Yes Sherry you are correct in that it will be next year’s Choraliers that would be able to sing at Carnegie. Since each year many of them graduate. That is how it worked with the Disney Performance last year… It was the 2009 group (29+ were Seniors that year) that were invited and the 2010 group that actually sang.

I didn’t realize that was the case with the Disney trip, I guess since Kelly was with Choraliers both years. It’s a shame they can’t be invited in the fall to sing somewhere in the spring (so the same kids get to go), but that I guess that would mean two trips and a gazillion more fundraisers! 🙂
