LaVergne Changes Name

At the workshop last night, the board of Mayor and Alderman voted to change the name of the City of La Vergne. There has been much bad press for the city for several years, and in order to change the city’s image, the board voted 4-1 to change the city’s name to Awesome.

Vice Mayor Chris Farmer brought up the motion. In his original motion he suggested the name change to “Fukery” (pronounced foo-carry). Much argument ensued about this name. Alderman Waldron said, “What is this Fukery? I’ve never heard a name like that before.” Mayor Mosley was concerned school children might misspell it, and Alderman Broeker agreed. “We see our city’s name misspelled often enough at the post office,” said Broeker. “I can only imagine how this might get misspelled.”

Alderman Green then suggested a name that was easier to spell and a hit with the board and the audience alike- “Awesome.” Green stated it would be easier to spell and would connote a positive image of the town. Vice Mayor Farmer agreed. “I mean,” he said, “How cool is that? We would be able to say ‘I live in Awesome, Tennessee.'”

There was some discussion about how much this would cost the senior citizens to change their name labels when they mail things. Broeker stated the cost should be minimal, but suggested perhaps the city could offer label making classes at the Senior Center.

The change does not take effect until May 1.

Much better name than “Difficult,” which is actually a town in Tennessee!

If only the town was actually “Awesome.” This is what our city government waste their time on? Don’t you think a better and more traditional name could have been in the mix?
