finally coming out of the dark ages and getting with the times…….I guess the way things were going in the past is just that the past.

spring is a time for new blooms and new life so I guess its the time for La Vergne to be born again!

Yee ha! The city just paid out close to a million dollars in a lawsuit and were celebrating with a three day festival. City leaders are so intelligent.

Maria just for the record a few of us city leaders had nothing to do with that lawsuit that has been put off for years. I guess you are one of those people who thinks if you ignore it then it will go away. Unfortunately not…. So we had 2 choices deal with it now or let it keep gaining more interest. Had it been dealt with before we would not have to look like the bad guys. Coincidence we are having to deal with things that should have been settled before the election…….I think not. I chose to run to try and fix some of the city problems, did not realize every month I was going to "get kicked in the teeth" so to speak with previous problems every month. We have a chance to be PROACTIVE now or we can do like previous council and be REACTIVE. It seems to be that the majority would rather we deal with the problems that were left and try to move forward. Feel free to come to a meeting and tell us how you feel. We don't bite we listen and try to do what is best for the citizens. We will never make everyone happy all the time. Alexis we are not forgetting about any problems either. We are trying to focus on what will get people to come into our city and generate revenue. At this time our parks are one of the best assets we have. By the way this was a lawsuit from 2007 and it was swept under the rug for years!

Seems like city officials trying to keep us happy and forgeting about the problems our city is facing. They love to spend other people's money.

if it serves me right the old timerss day festival is a fundraiser of sorts for the city so get of your high freaking horses and stop stating that the city is spending money. do you want a city that involves family things to do or one that just doest care like the last administration? think about it folks. Senna came into this and knew that there was a big mess and its being cleaned up. if you dont want to live in lavergne and be proud of the city then move the hell out. they are doing their best to improve the way of life here.

I agree, Mark. Besides the lawsuits were from the previous administration. Some of the people that were working (or should I say drawing a paycheck) from the city are now gone. Reorganizing the OTD and other "fun" things is like, to me, rearranging a living room….it makes things look better….a new change….and no money spent….just saying

For those who did not attend the meeting on Tue. night, the 3-day festival was explained very well. It is meant to bring revenue into La Vergne by way of expanding it to include rides, actually charging everyone who advertises, and expanded booth rentals. It will be an upgrade from the previous OTDs. As for the fireworks, they are being moved from the end of OTD to the 4th of July so that the citizens do not have to leave town to see an impressive fireworks display — same folks, same cost. Attending the actual board meetings gives one a much better overview of what is happening. It enables you to hear the actual questions and conversation about a plan or vote.

I love the people that talk smack on here. You know they (Mayor Mosely, Vice-Mayor Farmer, and Alderman Broeker) read this stuff, right? How about get your complaining rear-end down to a meeting or two and tell them, to their faces, what you think should be done with the city. How about work WITH people instead of working against them.

Mr.farmer, how in the hell do you think OTD will generate income for this city? How long has this yard sale been going on? Twenty plus years and you still cannot buy a pair of shoes in this city. I prefer to keep my money in LaVergne but, good grief man wake up. Begin by talking to congresswoman Black in the boro. Stop the nonsense of spending city funds on parades noone cares about and fix the damn potholes on waldron road.

      March 4, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Well for starters the group working on OTD is getting rid of the yard sale event it has been for years. I personally am not working on the project. I see it bringing money by the things they are bringing to the festival. I can tell you do not come to any of the workshops or meetings or you would know this already. Since some of you seem to be experts how to fix things please tell us. I promise we will give you the credit. Why didn't you run for office?? or did you run and lose? It is easy to sit behind an anonymous name and think it is easy and tell everyone else what they are doing wrong.

May I just say you have obviously not been to any of the city meetings or you would know that OTD is making some changes which will generate more funds for the city because we are all sick of the yard sale mentality and there is a heck of a turnout every year for a parade no one cares about! I would like to see more business brought here perhaps you have ideas you would like to share? Who have you contacted regarding the pot holes? Or do you like most people just gripe and complain to anyone else who will listen except the people who can do something about it!

well for peoples information last year the person in charge booked T. Grahm the main headliner for around $7,000 so no wonder why the city didnt make an y money. the former adminstration spent more money than they should have.

IF YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THINGS THEN AT LEAST TRY TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT AND AT LEAST ATTEND A FEW MEETINGS. People can sit on their computers and grip all day long but wont go to a meeting.
I think the ones that are complaining are the ones for the people that are no longer in office.

The eployees were getting paid for doing nothing but the tax payers were paying for it.

Exactly Mark! I don't get why people can't get that there have been so many positive changes in this city up to and including seats on the many boards. Parks and Rec has new faces and many many new ideas. The older members said when they showed up for the meetings everything had been decided on and they were just bodies in the chairs! We are tired of the same old hum drum "Groundhog Day "events. Even my kids don't want to go anymore cause nothing changes and its not anything to be proud of. I'm all for revamping All of our city's events with new ideas and using the existing budgets.I love how our new administration holds everyone accountable no matter who you are. If you are not for this city moving forward with Positivity then Move and take the Negativity with you!

I agree with catdaddy. The money you guys spend on OTD could be used elsewhere. Obviously Mr.Farmer you you failed to answer the question about fixing all the potholes in our city. Wow, a classic politician !

      March 5, 2011 at 9:13 am

Well Anthony do tell where you would like the money to go? In fact why don't you come to the meetings which are all open to the pubic(for a reason) and give your opinions where the people that matter may know! Like any other city this time of year we have potholes feel free to contact the actual department in charge of that (guess what- the actual department heads come to the city meetings!!!!!) If you want to know the true values of our politicians meet with them, call them. email them or come to the emergencies in our city and watch them in action! They were elected by us for us! If your only basis of a person's character is their response on potholes then bless your heart!

you know something MR FARMER has never been in politics before so how can you say he is a classic politician?

You people ticking me with all of your negitivity…if you dont like how things are run then run yourself or get the hell out dodge!!
I know for a fact that things are looking better for the city but those that dont believe should just pack up and move.

I am so tired of all the negative postings by people unwilling to put forth the effort to change. Anthony, Catdaddy, Alexis, Kevin and last but not least Maria you should consider running for office. You think you are so intelligent. Personally, I think that one or more of you have run and run and run and can’t even get elected dog catcher much less Alderman or Mayor. The people are not stupid enough to ever elect a certain individual. If you worked as hard for this new council as you do running your mouth, this city would move forward even faster than it is now. I am behind them 200%. It is so refreshing to see a council that loves their city and wants to bring more events in that promotes this city.(all but Waldron) My way of thinking is, if you promote your city then more will recognize the potential the city has to offer. The people elected this board to change the direction of the city. Guess what they are doing this by the hour, not the day. Hold on this is going to be a bumpy ride for some. Mayor Mosley you have not always done things the way that I would have, but I will say that you have always done them the right way for all the people. I think that you are an honest hard working person so I am willing to give you and the board a fighting chance. La Vergne did not get in this shape over night and it will not be fixed over night. I would like to see a site that we the people can make suggestions on how to improve this city. I agree with Alderman Broeker: LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET THE H*** out of the WAY!!

I think the city should get with all of the industry and hold a good size job fair, also get with locally owned businesses and create what smyrna has an independant association for those that own small local business, hold more family events that are free to attend. many ideas wouldnt take any money to do but time!

The Old Timer's Day changes sound great! I would like to re-state my former suggestion of getting Farmer Jason to play the main stage during the day. That would bring a lot of families from other parts of Middle TN to come ride the rides and buy from the vendors. My family has driven to Bellevue to see him in the past and is prepared to drive to Dixon to see him this month!
