Some City Meetings FYI

There’s so much excitement in City Hall right now!  If you want to get an inkling about why the city is abuzzzzzz …

Come to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Workshop scheduled on Thursday (that’s February 24th) at 5:00 p.m. to hear some of the ideas being bandied around. Here’s a link to the formal agenda (and I hope the link works).

The actual Board meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, March 1st at 7:00 p.m. That’s the one where the items discussed on Thursday are formally voted upon.

Please come to one or both!

In other news … LaVergne now has an official Facebook page.  And Twitter account!  I named it LaVergne37086 (like Beverly Hills 90210, only not).  JUST started so not a lot on them yet … we’ll get there.

So how is everyone?

KATHY!! Night Christmas Parade!!! Oh man! I'm so excited! If I can, I'm going to try to get out there!

And the 3-day Old Timer's Day(s) is interesting!

Wish the workshop were later — hard to get to when you work until 5:00 in Nashville! But will certainly try to make meeting. Bad thing is that if you don't get to the workshop, you don't know how the discussion went between the board members. It's important I believe to hear their conversations & where they stand on items.

why is it called old timers day? it really has nothing to do with old times? call it founders day if nothing else.

Old timers day is not what it used to be. It was honoring what else, but old folks of our city. Today it is nothing but a flea market and a 2 mile long yard sale. I cannot imagine city officials thinking of stretching this event to three days. This city is broke as is and simply cannot afford to add two days to this event. As a taxpayer and citizen of this town i am appaled at these guys managing city resources. How much did the city pay for the entertainment last year? How much did it cost in overtime pay for police, parks and recreation, public works employees to work this event? Look what murfreesboro did. They started charging people $5.00 for uncle dave macon days. Yes people complained but, in the end people paid it. Let the parade be free but at least start charging people for the entertainment. At least it would pay for the overtime costs and other city expenditures.

Guarantee you no one will come to OTD if you have to pay for it.

Kevin sounds like a grumpy, ahem, Old Timer 😉

Adrianne, you are very nieve if you think noone will attend OTD if they have to pay. Uncle Dave Macon day charges $5.00 and the last time i checked the tickets sold, it was a record attendance. No I am not grumpy or old. Just a concerned citizen watching my tax dollars squandered by people who do not think or care. There is only one thing that is free in this world of ours and that is salvation.

I agree with Kathy, if possible. please attend this meeting. I truly believe you will be surprised to learn our budget for three days will be similar to last year's budget for one day with many new and exciting events. I understand this is during the day and you may not be able. If this is the case I will can be reached at 394-2821 or 207-8030.

Tom, Kathy I think you guys are doing awesome! I wasn't able to make it the other night, but I'm really excited and can't wait to see what you're going to do! The night-time Christmas parade has me over the moon!!

I think the Mayor and alderman should do a KAROKE show, 3 songs at least? PLUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET IN THE DUNK BOOTH. NOW that would make some serious money for the OTD. I volunteer for making sure water is just right temp. 🙂 I overheard Mayor Mosley say she would if everyone else would. WAY TO BE A TEAM PLAYER MAYOR.

If i were city officials, I would not be so concerned about OTD or a christmas parade at night. I would be channeling my time and effort recruiting new retail businesses to this city of ous. They talk about a new warehouse coming to LaVergne. We have at least fifty open ones and i cannot tell you how many have closed and left this city. The money is in retail. If you think about it, you cannot even buy a pair of shoes in this city. OTD and other events the city sponsors are nothing more than to keep u busy and preoccupied. I hear Lake Forest is about finished and Woodsong to. The impact fees will dry up and what is next for the people of this city? Taxes, Taxes and more taxes. The city boasts they are the lowest in the state. Drive down any street in LaVergne and you can see it. Watch this board cautiously people. They are considering raising your water/sewer rates and after that, your property taxes as well.

I am sorry you feel the way you do regarding progress. Alderman Broeker is doing everything possible to bring new and exciting events to our city so OUR CITIZENS can stay in La Vegne and enjoy their city. In order to bring new businesses into our area we MUST sell our area. You can not just decide you want a business and expect them to just show up. I also welcome you attend the M/A meetings, Economic Development Advisory Committee, Planning Commission, Parks And Rec Advisory Board etc. to see exactly what is happening in our city, It is quiet obvious that you do not have a clue. As for our sewer rates for the last few years Metro has gone up on our rates. The price .47 to 1.17 cents and rising with the new price tag of 1.27. The city can not continue to absorb this fee without passing it on to the consumer at some point. We have asked MTAS to do a study at NO CHARGE to the city to evaluate our water and sewer rates. The city also received notice from the State Comptroller’s office prior to my Administration regarding our water dept being in the red for over 2 years. This means they will be in here in July and if we do not do something they will. This report will be given on Tuesday night at the city council meeting which begins at 7:00 Hope to see you there. I do hope the citizens are watching and hopefully getting involved in the happenings of this city. We have had more people willing to donate their time on boards than I have ever seen. I have an office at city hall and welcome you to visit and I will be happy to show you all this information. I am very proud of the direction this city is going and this council has a lot of messes to clean up and are willing to do so with style and grace.

Mayor, the only thing i've seen you do is get rid of people you do not like such as mark moshe Angie Mayes and who knows else. You seem to blame the last administration for the problems we have today but, were you not on that board when the city was going in the hole for sewer and water rates? How about the lawsuits against the city. How about the water write offs the city absorbed? Have you ever thought about placing liens on their businesses/homes? No you have not. I've read the minutes. Your primary concern is packing city hall with as many cronies as possible. look out Mr. Waldron and Mrs. Green all she and Mr. Farmer needs is your seats and I bet ya she and her minions will secretly campaign against both of them. They say the good ole boy system is over. Yea right. It's worse now than it has ever been.

senna knew about things but kept getting voted down. she was trying her best but the good ole boy network wouldnt let her do anything. get off her back and watch what she is doing. she is working her tail to the bone and there everyday not like the other mayor he wasnt there unless he wanted his picture made for tv. there is only so much she can do legally. plus its only been a few months so it takes time to do something right. the former people that are no longer with the city needed to be gone long ago!!!!

Where have you been all these years, or have you just had your head in a hole. I would bet in a hole. Did you just move into La Vergne. Pedro first do you also work in a junk yard. You people need to read the news, watch TV, get out more. All this stuff is old news. Please come up with something that we don’t know, something that we can blame this board with. Sounds to me like you are part of the past group who is upset that La Vergne is finally going in a positive direction for ALL not just the few. You two can call for a recall all you want, but face it the majority love what is happening in our city. Alderman Broeker I will certainly vote for you and might even hold a sign for you if it means we can get rid of Waldron! For the record, I voted for Mosley because she is a worker. WE have seen her out in the snow, rain, mud, sleet and hail working her ass off. I don’t remember seeing any of the others( pervious council) unless there was a camera involved. We are now seeing the new members Broeker and Farmer working. Don’t believe any of them have minions(servants) they do it themselves. It is an exciting time for La Vergne for the first time and I am proud to say I live here now.

Wow I came back to check on this and it's blossomed a little. Goodness gracious. Mayor Mosely, Kevin does not represent myself or the many other moms, young families, and other hard working people in our city that I network with regularly. I, for one, love the city I live in and would only do what I can to improve it, not bad mouth it publically. The guise of being anonymous in a public forum will sometimes make you to say things that you wouldn't respectfully say to someone in person.

Don't know what minutes you read, Kevin, but I attended many of the previous meetings where Mayor Mosley (then alderperson) tried to fight all the water write offs & wanted to make folks accountable. She also tried to point out why the city was acquiring so many lawsuits — many could have been avoided if handled properly by the THEN adminstration. But she was but ONE voice & others were not of the same mindset. This may be the reason some of the former adminstration (which you named) have now left the city. As far as water & sewer rates — that is something that is out of the hands of the board — it will have to happen in order to maintain the services we currently have. I like the other citizens of La Vergne hope the rates can be kept low, but again these situations have to be faced and delt with. I am assuming that you have not attended any of the meetings or spoken with any of the current city employees on the improvement in working conditions and the relief they feel in now being able to perform the duties they were hired to do without fear of reprimand for doing so. I'm certainly glad the the city is looking so much better to so many of our neighbors & the compliments are coming every day and from very important people. It's good for La Vergne & I want to personally thank Mayor Mosley for helping us get a positive image — it's long overdue!

I honestly think that all the negitive comments are those that either have worked for the city, family of those that have left the city, or some of the good ole boy network.

I also hear that the city is doing up city hall in pink curtains and lavendar carpets. Is this true? I guess a females touch is what is needed. I thought the mayor loved orange not pink?

Kevin just for the record I am not sure if you are calling me a minion or not. But to clear the record I will.not secretly campaign against Dennis. I will proudly hold someone elses sign for them. He has made it perfectly clear he will not agree with anyone on the board. We will never all agree but we have to come to a common ground at some point. All he is interested in ia Grandstanding by showing up late or mouthing at the meetings and not discussing anything in a workshop.

Sounds like some people are not Happy with the City moving in a POSITIVE direction for once. A lot of people can put stuff in writing but are to much of a coward to tell folks to their face! Honestly Mr. Waldron would be a better person to resign his seat if he is that unhappy, rather than stay on the board and make an a** of himself. I guess if i was no longer able to be paid under the table, i would probably be upset to. For along time Mrs. Green wasn't properly informed on things being done and was just told to vote "yes". Finally now that she is being included in all discussions, she seems to have a positive outlook on what is happening in La Vergne and wants to be part of it. Quit B****ing about everything and help our community in the effort to clean up and get new retail in here. To the Board of Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Alderman, Keep moving forward in the direction that you all are going, and it won't take long to see the city turning around.
