Another Storm Is Coming

February 27, 2011
By

I was just asked to notify residents that the Box 100 volunteers are opening the Multipurpose Building behind City Hall again tonight because of severe weather approaching.  The building will be available for residents seeking shelter beginning at 10:00 p.m. and will remain open as long as needed. Box 100 is a volunteer unit that supports first responder personnel when they are on the scene of major emergencies.  Their work is not unlike that of the Red Cross in that they provide shelter, nourishment, water, etc. in times of need, but their efforts are mostly directed toward aiding fire,...

How did you weather the storm?

February 26, 2011

My NOAA weather radio was going nuts in the back of my house;  I have it programmed for Rutherford, Williamson, Davidson, and Wilson counties.  I ignored it because I was busy watching a movie or something… but outside the wind, tornadoes, or whatever were hard at work.  I lost a very big tree in my back yard… other casualties were my fence, the corner of my shed, and the squirrel who lived in that tree.  Luckily, the tree did not hit my house or our camper… others weren’t so lucky.  How are you all? In other news, I have...

I Admit… I Am Impressed

I have finished three weeks on the new job with the city.  What an interesting three weeks it has been! I’ve received inquiries from the city web page where people fuss because no one has answered them… but they’ve left no name, email, or phone number for us to reply. Working with our IT guys to freshen up the city web page (more amazing to come). Started an official city facebook page… not a lot on it yet, but here it is (we’ll get there!). Planning to set up an official Twitter page for you twitterers out there for...

Smith’s Market Reopens

February 17, 2011
By

I’m so excited to finally see the grand opening of the new Sav-A-lot, formerly known as Smith’s Market of LaVergne.  I feel like the store has been closed forever, missing the quality meat department and friendly, courteous staff. I wonder if we will see some of the previous staff members, they always went above and beyond to assist you and  appreciated your business. Bobby Smith, sons Greg and Dwayne and their wives Julie and Liane will all still be involved in the store, which received money from private investors to make the switch to Save-A-Lot The Daily News Journal...

February 17, 2011
By

While we all have long anticipated warm weather, the downside to the extreme change from last week has created sickness in my household!  I was so looking forward to the warm front that we currently are experiencing, unfortunately, I can’t seem to find the time to enjoy it.   The weather has brought on illness that has confined me to home, both of my kids have been sick this week and I’m also feeling a bit under the weather. So is anyone else stuck at home this week with sickness in your household, I’m hoping that everyone is healthy and...
