Here we sit in early November looking toward what is coming up in the next month… busy times for our area communities. We’ll have LaVergne’s swearing-in ceremony on November 18th. We’ll learn who our new alderman will be to take the seat vacated by Mayor-Elect Mosley. We have our Christmas Tree Lighting scheduled on December 7, at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.
And we have some parades coming up! I would love to see LaVergne hold a night parade during the holiday season. They have night parades for Goodlettsville and Clarksville and they are a sight to behold. The cars and floats go by with thousands of lights… candy canes are thrown and Santa makes an appearance on the last float – usually riding a firetruck or being pulled by a horse drawn carriage (too bad they don’t have reindeer around here to pull a sleigh).
Meanwhile, entries are now being accepted for parades in Smyrna, Eaglesville, and Murfreesboro. Here’s the information you need from the DNJ.
Trophies will be awarded to the most creative entries, those demonstrating best Christmas spirit and use of theme. The Mayor’s Cup will go to best overall entry.
Each float is required to have a fire extinguisher; vehicles in the procession must be decorated; No entrants allowed to have costumed Santa or Mrs. Claus.
“Santa’s already filled out an application and made arrangements to be here,” Peppers added.
I love the themes: Favorite Christmas Songs, Christmas, and Bicentennial Christmas.
