Open Thread Friday: What’s on Your Mind?

Glorious fall colors!  High school wonkiness. Politicking. Voting. Price of gas keeps going up.  Cupcakes.  Laundry.  Deer legs and dogs. Chilean miner rescue.  6:00 a.m. alarm. And where in the world is that pee smell coming from.  Now you know what’s on my mind. What’s on yours?

HA! The pee smell. I have three kids, one of whom is a newly potty trained boy. The pee smell is my life!

I am going to *force* my rugrats to go outside to play this weekend…without their video game things that make me regret we ever bought them. I am going to clean my house in peace and quiet. I am going to sew a cape for one of the kid's costumes. I am going to pin Ms. Kathy T down so I can give her the candy money. I am going to go grocery shopping (but I am not going to enjoy it.) I am going to carve out at least five continuous minutes of peace, quiet and relaxation during the weekend, even if I have to get up at 2 in the morning to do it (okay, not really, but you know what I mean.)

By the way, I'm also thinking about how this site of no consequence has had over 1,000 hits a day every day this week (1500 yesterday). I wish someone who is a techno genius can show me a free way to measure unique visitors.

Well, since I have been visiting up about a dozen times a day, I think the total may be a wee bit lower when you only count unique visits. I think the numbers are AWESOME though and I hope they hold up after the election. There is more to this town than that!

Kathy have you tried sitemeter? I use it on my blog…which you are welcome to check out. 🙂

        Nice <del>blog</del> site! (haha…)
Does site meter measure the unique visitors for free or is that the premium site meter?

Yes, the free version will give you the IP address and location of every visitor (along with their ISP, from where they were referred, and a bunch of other nifty stats).

Now, that being said, sometimes cable internet providers' can have the wrong city. Don't ask me why. I'm tech savvy, but not THAT tech savvy. My personal IP address (Comcast ISP) comes from Meridian Mississippi. More time than not, though, the location is accurate.

I would much rather see the number of unique visitors each day than just how many hits… the unique visitors would be a much more accurate view of what our traffic is. I'd die, though, if it was but 30 people. Hahaha…

I see what you're saying. How about this? You can see a list of who has been on that day (week, month) and how many times they've been on. That might get you what you need.

I mean, you could install it and it's not what you're looking for, at least you didn't spend any money on it!

I guess WordPress isn't the end-all that I'd hoped. I've added sitemeter and got this message:

Unfortunately, does not allow you to add the javascript version of SiteMeter to your pages. That means you won't be able to track the original URL from which your visitors came before linking to your site.

What platform do you use for your site?

Well crud. I thought about that for a split second, but assumed that they'd be compatible.

        I use Blogger for mine.

I've used StatCounter too before and was happy with it. It has similar features (just not as easy on the eyes) You could try that too.
