I just found out this week that there is a Farmer's Market held in the parking lot of the North Rutherford health department office in Smyrna (108 David Collins Drive). It goes on every Wednesday morning from 8 am to 12 pm until the last Wednesday in August, and is open to the public. I saw lots of yummy produce on offer, including melons, tomatoes, potatoes, squash, and okra. One farmer was even selling beef!

I think it would be great to get the word out on this, as I have seen a lot of posts on these local blogs in the past few years about wanting to bring a farmer's market to the area, yet I had no idea there actually was one!

Also, I would like to mention that the local food bank accepts fresh produce from local gardeners. I dropped off a big bag of zucchini there myself. They are located at 130 Richardson Street in Smyrna, but they serve residents of Smyrna and La Vergne.

I saw the article about the Farmer's Market in Smyrna in the Tennessean this morning. I was ready to check it out until I saw the hours. Wednesday from 8-12. That cuts out everyone that has a day job. I wonder why they do not have it on Saturday from 8-12.

Well I paid for a copy of the city budget and it is quite interesting. For anyone who has never seen it you should buy a copy. It is Public Information. I have sat and stared at it for hours and have made several notes. There are so many things that are unclear. If elected I would like to see a much more detailed budget that anyone can pick up and be able to look at it and say "oh ok" i see this department is doing "this". But it appears until then things will be cloudy for me as far as looking and trying to decifer the budget.

Well, since you already bought it and we al want to read it…. any chance you could post it on here?

"all" not "al." Although I'm sure Al would like to read the budget too.

Also, I noticed on the facebook page a question about Horses. Does anyone have the answer? Since our city allows farm animals even in R2 and R3 zoning (note the LFE pig), I assume that legally you could have a horse in your yard.

That could be our new motto – Come to La Vergne where you can have a postage-stamp yard but still bring your horses, pigs, chicken's, mother-in-law, and any other animals of your choosing!

Michael my computer skills are not that great but when I get home I will see what I can do. I have never tried scanning and uploading but I will give it a shot. only thing is it is 60 pages. Kathy how can we doe this?

  9. July 19, 2010 at 12:10 pm

Is it a PDF file? Or hard copy? If PDF I can upload and link. Hard copy… not so much. Why isn't it already online at the city web site?

I am back in town and trying to get caught up. Will write a couple of posts after my dentist appt. (Ugh!!)

its a paper copy. I paid for it and its public record. and that is a good question why isn't it online already or maybe it is and its just hid in the website really well.

I checked out the records the city has online. I searched the word 'budget' and got diddly squat.

Chris- does your scanner have and OCR function? That might be the way to go, as it reads the words and creates a text file instead of just an image. Although, if you make a PDF, I think you can still do searches for certain words in Acrobat Reader. I am a graphic designer and I can help with PDF creation if necessary.

Sara you might as well have been trying to teach me chinese arithmatic. I will be happy to bring a copy to someone if they want to make a PDF so we can get this online for everyone to see. I too have been looking all day for it online and if it is good luck finding it.

Waldron Road is all torn up from I-24 to M'boro Road. If it rolls out like I think it will, it'll be a thing of beauty when it's done. Well, "beauty" in terms of, you know, how roads look. And sidewalks!

I know kitti. Right now getting through that road is more of a nightmare than before. But, no complaints here because I know what's in store. Yipee!! I get to pass trucks! (going the speed limit of course) 🙂

I'm quite certain that all of y'all know how to bypass Waldron Road during this much needed expansion, right? Those of us of the west side of town have being doing this for decades.

    Need help? Just ask!

Cricket, where the heck have you been all summer?! I was starting to think you'd skipped town for good. And don't give away our shortcuts – I like the quiet on this side of the interstate!

Of course I missed you! I think you and I are the only ones on this blog from "our" side of the interstate. Everything okay with you and yours?

Try the "Old Waldron Road" — by the Midas Shop. . .

Ahhh – that one I already knew about and use.

If you want to get more creative, you can also use Mason Rd. from the "Old Waldron Road" to Industrial Blvd. This was the one and only route into town that was still open during the flooding back in May when all of the roads were closed.
