The Announcement March

March is such a strong, important word that I desperately wanted to use it as a double entendre in the headline. I kind of pictured a combination of the talking paperclip

and the bill becoming law dude…

Epic.  Fail.

So let’s move on with the announcements from the city for March (aka “The Announcement March”).

From the library:

Spring Break is here! There will be no storytimes the week of March 22nd to March 26th.

From the city:

The Spring issue of the La Vergne Times is now available on this web site. You can find it at the bottom of the home page.

From Parks & Rec:

The annual egg hunt will take place on March 27 at Bicentennial Park, next to City Hall.  The games will begin at 9 a.m.  The hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m.  The ages for the hunt are: 0-4; 5-7 and 8-11.  For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 793-3224.

Side note: We’re hoping my girl scout troop can volunteer to help with the egg hunt!

From the city again:

The annual Celebrate La Vergne historical event will take place on Saturday, March 13, from 3 – 5 at the Civic Auditorium, 283 Old Nashville Highway.  Tractors, memorabilia and more will be a part of this year’s event.  Members of the public — both old and young — are encouraged to gather at this event and learn the history of La Vergne.

About OldTimers’ Day:

The La Vergne Board of Mayor and Alderman has voted unanimously to hire country legend T. Graham Brown as the headliner for the 2010 Old Timers’ Day festival to take place on Sept. 18 at Veteran’s Memorial Park in La Vergne.

Brown’s show will begin at 4 p.m., after six other singers/groups take the stage. The other acts are to be announced after March 22. The concert is free and open to the general public. Tickets are not necessary for the show.

Among the songs Brown is known for are:  Hell and High Water, Don’t Go to Strangers’ and Darlene. His current CD, The Present, includes such songs as Turn, Turn, Turn (To Everything There is a Season), Just a Closer Walk with Thee and You’ve Got a Friend. A greatest hits collection, D’j’ Vu All Over Again, was released in 2007.

This year’s festival will be the 39th for the city. Chamber of Commerce Representative Carrie Smith will be the grand marshal for this year’s parade.
